overpopulation

do you think that overpopulation is the biggest worldwide problem right now. in ecology i'm learning about the un's goals for 2015. for example, they have goals like combat HIV, poverty, woman equality, and education for all. none of these other goals won't even exist if we don't fix the environment. if we control how many people are on the earth we won't be sucking up resources as fast and saving the planet.

  1. What do you mean by controlling the earth's population? Are you saying that we should leave diseases alone to help control the pop., or are you saying that abortion and contraceptives are good things in controlling the population?

Also, you say that controlling the population saves resources and therefor saves the planet. Do you believe that Earth, a hunk of dirt, rock, and magma, is more important than human life?

  2. I don't think the problem is that there is just simply too many human beings. I think the problem is that everyone is so greedy! They take more than what they need. Many people should walk or ride their bikes more, than driving even just around the block. A lot of people including my family buys way too much uneeded or unsatisfying food so it goes to waste. So I guess to fix the environment more people just need to limit themselves to buying what they actually need.

  3. I too agree with the fact that people are to greedy and we also shouldn't be so lazy. Like during school, a lot of the people go to mcdonalds or taco bell, or subway. Yeah, driving thru the drive thru is a lot faster but it is also in walking distance, and it doesn't take that long. Or when you go to the store, people do buy more then they need to.

  4. The biggest world problem?

Yeah, overpopulation is a big one, but in that argument, I would also say that humans are the world's biggest problem.

We come in, we take control, we cover land with needless crap and call ourselves "civilized", when all we're really doing is polluting and endangering millions of species of animals. We could live like animals and be what this world considers "normal", but apparently, we're "better" than animals.

We are the problem, not because we're greedy or lazy (those are some problems, though), but because we don't take care of the planet. Someday we'll wish we had, but the time to do it will have come and gone, and our chidren's children won't know what a white-tailed deer is, or a bald eagle, the symbol of our country. They won't be able to look out the door and see the sun shining because of haze, and we'll barely be able to go outside anyways because our pollution is destroying the ozone layer.

So all in all, I think humans are the world's largest problem.

  5. Population control our not, the earth is going to eventually clean up the mess that we made as a race.
The planet well eventually get rid of us and your population control bull well be solved.
No more humans = Healthy planet
so worring about how earth is going to run out resources, and how we are killing it because its not.
We should be wasting our time worrying about how to improve our standard of life, KEEP people alive, making this world a better place to live, and keepign each other Happy, or close to it. The earth will keep a flow of resources, and then it will decide whether to wipe us out,or make us leave earth.

  6. I think population control is a good idea. I also think that conserving the planet is mandantory for the future because at this moment, Earth is all we've got.
But that's as far as I'm going into the conversation.

  7. I agree with Alana, there cant be a problem of population or such without us as people being the problem. Im not big on debating big arguments like this but i think that we control our own lives by making our own decisions. We live in this world and if we know it's a problem and dont want it to continue we should do soething about it. If not, then dont. so i really dont know what else to say than that. if that even made sense. like i said, idk really.

  8. Excellent answers!

I'm going to go with Stewy on this one. Humanity may fall, but the Earth abides; once we are gone, life will, most likely, recover. If our greatest crime is pollution and overuse of resources, then it will certainly recover. However, if we use our deadliest weapons, we could potentially make the Earth inhabitable; so too, if we keep finding newer and better ways to squeeze every ounce of use we can get out of everything the planet has to offer, we may leave behind a barren, uninhabitable wasteland.

So for my own self, I think there are too many people, but I don't think much of the other alternative. For the future of the earth, I think it best if we leave before we overstay our welcome here.

  10. Over population is one of the worlds bigger problems, but it is easily fixed, Why do we have nukes in the first place?

  11. I have a solution, for two years take down any sort of government and let people go do whatever they want no rules, problem solved.

  12. I do not think that over population is the biggest problem right now but i'm not sure what is. It might be that there are just so many little problems that they are all adding up and making one big huge problem

  13. I think it is ONE of the many problems right now. Such as China only allowing one kid for each couple. I think its sort of sad, yet it helps China's population, yet again? Will it help for the rest of humanity?

  14. I'm not really sure how I feel about this topic. But I think if we do anything about we should adopt China's law on overpopulation and limit the amount of kids people can have.

  15. Overpopulation isn't the biggest problem, but It's definetly a pressing one.

  16. I don't think it's the biggest problem, but if we don't do anything about it, it could be the biggest one.

  17. I think most males should get Vasectomys. lol I really don't like children and I do think overpopulation is probably the biggest problem for the world right now.

  18. I think it is a big problem but i dont know how to handle it. I think something needs to be done though because too many people are starving.

  19. I don't know...it takes to much brain power for me to think about these things, and I only have so much brain power considering I'm secretly a robot. :)

  20. I think we have worse problems than that. We can find ways to benefit the large population we have in the world.

  21. Hmm... over population, yes a intresting problem that our planet has, but like other people have stated not our biggest.
and to quote what luke said
"I have a solution, for two years take down any sort of government and let people go do whatever they want no rules, problem solved."
Only two years? I think a bit more would be necessary, but good luck getting things back on track afterwards :).

  23. Yes over population is a problem, our biggest one no! Look around I hope you can find bigger ones.

  24. To a point...
but i also think that humans are waaaay too high and mighty about themselves. One day, probably not anytime soon, humans might just die out, or be wiped out. But that's okay. Who's to say that this Earth is OUR'S? We act like it is our world and we let everyone else live in it. Which is really really stupid and self righteous. I personally think we need to get over ourselves.

  25. i am extremely scared of over population i think that we should maintain ourselves and not go makin babies

    ReplyDelete
  26. @coco nut or whatever
yes i am saying the earth is more important than human lives. this is where we reside, and if it's gone than so are we. pollution will get out of hand even more and we will all die. all the resources will be sucked dry and we will be gone. so yea that's what i'm saying

  27. I think it's more war then anything but overpopulation is serious. If we have too many people that means more food which means more war for land and stuff and it repeats itself and I don't like that.
