    How can I know?

The world we live in is the only one I have ever known.
I was not alive twenty, thirty years ago so I have nothing to compare it too.
Sure, there are terrible, terrible things that occure in the world and maybe more statistically horrid things happen now as opposed to then but our society seems to adapt.
I can agree in seeing facts of ecological aspects that we are doomed but I'm way to optimistic for my own good when it comes to the minds behind the future. I just like to have hope. Personal flaw...
I'm optimistic for my personal future because I know my personal self.
As for the rest of the world, I'm certainly uncertain.

    Answer to #10: Negativity

In this entire entry, I risk sounding (am going to be) over-dramatic and verbose, but this is just the way I feel.

Many of us are horrible. Many human beings, not necessarily of a certain age or race. All of us as a whole.

Most humans could care less about things that matter, that are needed to better our world. But all we do is sit in front of our televisions and computers, and block out the world, with not a single glance back. I admit to almost being one of these people; I care about the world, I would love to do something, anything, for it, but I don't have the means to accomplish anything significant.

"One person can change the world." I believe this, but is this one person myself? Or anyone I know of, really? No, because we are all just going to sit back in our computer chairs and relax on our couches because we don't have anything to worry about. Oh no, the children in Africa have things to worry about, the starving and homeless, even the people whose lives have been affected by war; they all have something to worry about, while the rest of us sit down at our posh jobs and live our everyday lives. Not a care in the world... or is the correct term "not a care about the world"?

As for our country, its just rotten to the core. America is the most lavish, extravagant country in the world. Eventually... we'll just kill ourselves.

Nothing is going right in the world at the moment. Poor people are getting poorer, the rich richer, the hungry and alone are dying. We don't even care about our own kind, for god's sake!

I promised myself, that as I grow older, I would do something, anything, to help this planet... I don't even see how that could happen anymore. If the world as we know it is going to end in 2012... I don't even know. Even if this horrible event that philosophers and soothsayers predicted hundreds of years ago never happens, what are we to do? Sit there and cower in our basements until we're sure nothing is going to happen? And what of those without shelter? What are they to do? Wait for the inevitable?

Sorry, lost track of my point for a moment there... anyway, the future holds nothing for us. We're as good as dead. I can only hope that I'm not here at the downfall of the human race.

    the world

I think that the world is definately getting worse. I think that people are selfish, and mean. I am Christian, so I believe that the world is getting worse and it means the end is coming, but whether that is good or bad is a whole other discussion that I don't want to get into right now. So, the world is bad and we need to work on that.

Pah. Where is the world going you ask?

The world is going to hell. I really think it is. This is a subject I actually feel quite passionatly about. The biggest problem is simply the government in my opinion. It has lost it's ability to do just what it's supposed to do: GOVERN. Either it tries too hard in areas where there is either no hope, or it obsesses where there was no problem to begin with, and then digs itself deeper into wars we cannot ever win., and racks up the debt while it's at it. However in other areas of the world, the government doesn't do enough, letting it's women get raped and it's children starve to death. You would think since we (the U.S) being the world power, would do something about it, but alas, no. The government is crumbling. I also have christian beliefs, and the bible says the world is going downhill, so I believe it is. What this world needs is peace. And population control......

    Food

My favorite thanksgiving food is turkey...and mashed potatoes......and corn. I have to have ALL that together, or thanksgiving dinner is no good. I hear of people who eat take out chinese food for dinner, I just don't understand it. SHAME.

Topic 10: Oh What a Lovely World We Live In..

I think the world is getting worse. I feel like nobody cares what happens anymore. People could care less if there's Global Warming, if our citizens are getting killed in a war over nothing, and all the starving kids in Third World countries that need help.
I think we care way too much about little things that don't matter, and not enough about big things that could help our people.

    Our world

"Its always darkest before the dawn"-Some great philosopher

I believe that this statement, (though false in many situations) holds true for our country at the moment. I think that yes we are still in a bad economic situation. Yes we are in the middle of "the war on terror". Yes the American people are in a bad financial situation, however I believe that we can rise again. We have risen from worse; The Great Depression, the effects of the Vietnam war, and past economical recessions. From each experience, we have always come out stronger. Because people hated the Vietnam veterans for the participation in the war, they were shunned and treated unfairly. As a result of this unfair treatment, we have programs such as support your troops, and OurMILITARY. Things that we all thought would send us spiraling into destruction, has only made us stronger. Yes there will be a point that were we will not be able to return, but when that happens, that will be the end. It will not be the governments fault, but the people that elected them. We as a whole are to take the blame for our actions, and it is upon us to fix it, and i believe that is something we can come back from

    I can see ze future.

I don't know much about the direction of the world, but I definitely know where I'm going. Or where I want to go.. but for the sake of staying positive, where I'm going. I have everything planned out, well okay not everything. But I have a general plan, an outline. I know what I definitely don't want to do and I know what i need to do to get there. I'm extremely anal about the future. I worry all the time but at the same time, I am really super excited to get there.

I can't wait to get out of town and do something.

    every whichway.

It would be wrong to say our world is heading in the wrong direction. but we aint headed the right way either. the world is so screwd up on so many levels beyond what it ever was. but the opposite would be just as bad. this is the nature of things. nothings perfect, not everything is hell. there is chaos. there is peace. there is both mixed together.this is how things have always been. and always will be. my point is, no matter how our society changes, there will be really screwed up shit, and luxuries. so i cant say we are heading the wrong way. just that we are heading some way.

    thanksgivin

yeah i like thanksgivin. the foods a plus. especially when u get to have turkey and elk for diner. god meat tastes good! that and pumpkin pie. anyone who doesnt like pumpkin pie needs to die.(ha i rhymed) its the best. so is elk and turkey and mashed potatos. but what can i say, im a redneck.
I think our country is not really going in the right direction. This is mainly because i dont think we should be spending all this money while we're already in debt by soooo much money. I don't think we should be sending more troops into the war because we are just spending money while doing so. I heard on the news the other day that it costs the country about a million or more dollars per troop to fight the war!!! Thats wrong and i think we need to think about our money issues before our health care.

    the country

our country is headed in a direction that is defiantly not the right one. our country is one of luxury and greed. we use way more than our share of things and we have way more than is needed to survive. we are in no way on the top of the food chain in this world.
i am definetly afraid of where are country is headed .. i feel like itll be the great depression all over agian

    Well..

I think that our country is going in the wrong direction by far. We are stupid with our money, food, healthcare, and war.
" You can blow the world into peices but not into peace"

    Topic #10: Direction

Do you think our country, our society, our world is getting better or worse?  Are we headed in the right direction, or going the wrong way?

What is going wrong, and what is going right?

I would love to see a rant about the biggest problem you see in the world today, or a paean to the nicest thing about life, if you're feeling full of puppies and rainbows.

Are you afraid of what the future holds, or looking forward to reaching it?
Food. Well since there are endless possibilities for food, and since i don not have a favorite, I'll just have to list a Few
    Creole Chicken Fettucine
    Chalupas
    Putenesca(sp?)
    Alfredo(with noodles and chicken)
    Chicken n' Dumplings
    Potato Ham Chowder
    Lasagna
    Open Faced Sandwiches
Stir Fry (leftovers and Rice O Roni(i think)
    Steak
    Ham
    Pork Roast
    Pies

I can make all of the above. I love to cook, and its absolutely fun.... Olivia is waaaay better at it than I am though. You need a good cake you should ask her, absolutely wonderful cake.

    Late, again..

    Health Care:
I don't really know what health care is, or what the whole dispute about it is, but I know it's good to have it so I believe that everyone should have health care, even if you can't afford it, because everyone deserves to be healthy, and you shouldn't put a price on good health or anything that includes living. So if Obama decides to put a tax on people who can afford it, then so be it. I can see how that would but people, and it would bug me too, but it's for a good cause, and if you put yourself in that position, you'd want there to be a tax for you too. Personally, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to help others out who need it. It's not like it's going to a bad cause. This is one of the reasons why our country is so crazy, nobody is willing to put themselves aside, and help others. I think America is a little selfish. haha.

    Thanksgiving:
My favorite thanksgiving food item is probably candied yams. Sounds disgusting, and everyone thinks i'm crazy but it's actually really good. It pretty much tastes like brown sugar and pecans. But anyways, I'm not really that big of a fan of turkey, which is usually everyones favorite part. Maybe I just have a sweet tooth, but it's true. My thanksgiving this year was kinda disappointing though. Maybe I'll have a better one next year.

    :)

    Food

I like Thansgiving for two reasons. 1, We get three days off from school. 2, we get to eat as much as we want. Both of these things are good, so I like Thanksgiving.

On the topic of culinary creations...

    Thoughts on food...

Well, I am not going to be like everyone else and start off by saying how I love food. The fact is that most of the time I really don't. I often regard many meals as annoying yet necessary activities (meals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, ect. excepted.) My preferences for food would be foods that aren't greasy, dry, or spicy. For this reason I avoid eating "food" from burgerville, chicken nuggets, and most Mexican foods (I haven't even ever set foot in Muchos Gracias.)

What I do like are foods like custards, puddings, yogurt, and tapioca; soup and stews; and weird foods like my grandmas three bean salad, which consists of three varieties of beans steeped in vinegar for a couple days. One of my favorite things to eat is cauliflower dipped in a blue cheese dip with crumbled blue cheese on top. Last but not least I like meats and sausages, particularly grilled bratwurst.

As for beverages I will drink most things. I am not too fond of hot drinks, however. I feel that the benefits of having a drink hot are outweighed by the prospect of getting a burnt mouth.
Although some people do not believe me, I have never have drunk a drop of coffee in my whole life! When people hear this they either give me a look of disbelief, a look of confusion, or a look of how-do-you-live-without-coffee! I get similar results when people hear that I don't have or want an i-pod, don't watch television, and don't have or want a cell phone.

Nothing to do with the blog, so if you will be insluted by me writing this on here, DO NOT READ

three days ago, my friends parents went through his e-mail, and found out how depressed he was. They sat him down and had a long talk with him, and asked him questions he couldn't answer, because he didn't know the answers himself. His parents asked him questions like "why don't you love yourself?", "why are you letting these girls control your life?", "whats your solution to getting better "what is really making you so sad?", and "do you wake up with suicidal thoughts?".
We talked about it afterwords, and while talking to me, he found the answers. He said that talking to his parents, he felt that he would disappoint them. This is one of his greatest fears. I askeed him the same questions, and he answer them.

    Tyler-"why don't you love yourself?":

....- I don't love myself because they don't love me. They don't understand how much the affect me and everything I do. I know this is pathetic to say at 18, but i really am what people make me.

Tyler- "why are you letting these girls control your life?",

....-Becuase they are the first people that ever showed me kindess when i first moved here. i have always thought of them, and they were in my head since 3 grade

    Tyler-"why are you so sad?"

....- I'm sad becuase I'm not good enough for anyone, and they shouldn't love me. I'm a failure, and a screw-up, and a complete waste of space."

Tyler-" do you have suicidal thoughts?"

    ....- Yes. But I don't want to die.....I'm scared

He's been alive for 3 years after this conversation, and is succsefull as he is supposed to be
today was the anniversary of this conversation, and I felt like posting
    sorry if I offended

    FOOD! :)

I love food. I love thanksgiving! I love my family and thats about it. . .

    Health care. Late

I dont agree with the health care program right now. I think the tax is ridiculous. I dont know much but I talk to my dad about it and its not good, he says its going in the toilet and I believe him from what I hear.

    thankful for thanksgiving

Personally, I am a big fan of thanks giving. Between it and Cristmas, it is the only time that the family puts aside thier differances and acts like a seni-functional family:). And thanks to my aunts sothern origions, the food is amazing... And soaked in butter.

    Food, turkey, old people.....

I love turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy. what else can I say? I don't eat that much though... I never really have. I eat enought to sustain me, but I never gorge my self. I don't starve my self before hand either. I suppose when I eat a lot I look... how you say.. like a teenage boy. I also feel carnivorous when I eat, because I tear at my food and scarf it down.

I heat sweet potatoes and squash. Or anything that my mother says "tastes like candy". Including corn... I loath that stuff... blah..

    Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is oh so special to me. It IS the one time in the year were i can see my hole family (my favorite side/my moms side). They live in a little/hick town called la grande, and its ironic, because half of them are the most liberal people i have ever know; minus my grandfather Ron Nash and my lovely grandmother Peggy (Both are the most racist, republican people i will ever know, and i love them even more because of it)
I mean there is nothing like sitting around a Massive table with people you sit with once a year, and you You listen to my granddad say grace and digging in to the most delicious food one the planet. Mountains of mas potatoes, turkeys that are hunted down and smoked for a day. and the gravvvvvvvvvvvvvyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
OMG I LOVE GRAVY. nothing is better than my mums/grandma's, Turkey gravy. Thank the maker for GRAVY

    food

I love food! I am a picky eater though. I don't like anything with hamburger or fish. Yuck. I do however, love bread. It's the best food in the world. So, rolls are the best part of thanksgiving.

    Food :)

I LOVE food and i eat wayyyy too much of it although on thanksiving i tend not to be hungry which is odd. I usually have my dinner around 3 am YUM! My favorite is probably the pie (duh) or rolls yummy. :)

    Thanksgiving

I love thanksgiving personally. But i HATE stuffing! It is soggy bread and its gross. But im happy this year because i get 2 thanksgivings. :)

    Food? >.>

    Uh...

    Favorites:
    • Anything junky, obviously
    • Salad
    • Fruit
    • etc...

    DISGUSTING:
    • Any type of spinach that is NOT in spinach salad
    • Stir fry. That's just a yuck.
    • Most types of salami. It's really hard to find GOOD salami.
    • That fancy fruit-cheese crap that tastes like curdled... all milk products you could possibly think of mushed together into one big ball plus a heaping helping of mold.
Good stories? Not particularly. Nothing that I can remember at the moment, anyway.

As for Thanksgiving, we always get amazing food, unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of turkey. I prefer ham, but my mom is cooking, and she'll probably make turkey instead.

As for stuffing, I've tried it, like, every Thanksgiving, and I still hate it! I don't get why it's so gross...

    FOOD!!!!!!!

I love food!!! I may not look like it but i am constantly snacking. During thanksgiving i love to eat rolls mashed potatoes turkey and PUMPKIN PIE!!!!!!! I also enjoy visiting with family though

    Topic 8

Personally i wont start worrying much about health care till im 18 and can vote etc... Right now i cant sit down and read something about health care cause i would fall asleep.

    FOOD!! YUMMM

Me personally I love food. I can eat as much as I use to cause I get full easy but I still love food.
My personal favorite food is Chinese. I love chinese. I love thanksgiving cause you get to see all your family and enjoys old stories about when they were little or old family storys. I get four thanksgivings. My mom and dad are divorced so I get two with my mom and two with my dad. I think that the best thing to eat on thanksgiving is the mashed potatoes. That is about the only thing that I eat besides the desserts because I personally hate turkey and ham, as well as stuffing and cornbread. My favorite thing about the desserts is the whipped cream, I always put twice as much as I should on my pies because I love it so much. My favorite pie is apple with whipped cream. I love being around family and sharing all the food they bring and make and just haning out with cousins that I havent seen in a yr.

    Thanksgiving!

I am so excited for thanksgiving this year! Since my mom is writing a novel this month because November is national novel writing month My sister and I get to make the dinner by ourselves. We were excited to make it because we only have five people in our family easy right? but then my parents decided to go to idaho to be with my grandparents and that turned into seven. My aunt and uncle decided to come out also to be with the family so seven turned into 9 and people kept saying that they were coming and now my sister and I are supposed to make a thanksgiving dinner for at least fifteen people! AHH! But I guess I should take advantage of the holiday and give thanks that I'm not doing it all by myself! Thanks goodness for caitlin! I'm most excited for the rolls and the pie though because we made the rolls last night and they just have to be warmed up and served and pie is pie and is always scrumptious!

    I have stuffing, do you?

Let me start off by saying, I eat too much. That's probably why there's no food in our fridge...plus we have 4 people in the house, and Grandma can't stop eating cereal, so yeah, we have to "faire les courses" like, every day.

I personally do NOT like Turkey. Sure, it's the Thanksgiving symbol, but I don't like to eat it. I think it's dry, I know you can add gravy, but I don't particularly like the taste of that. I love having mashed potatoes, but we always make a ton too much, so it ends up sitting in our fridge for a month, then we just have to throw it away.

Last year, (we're doing this this year too) we went down to Salem to visit family and eat there. I would much rather go somewhere else for Thanksgiving then stay home, of course because I'm lazy and I hate cleaning up afterward. The downside to going there is it's a whole bunch of family I gained just because my Grandma married her man, and so it's really awkward for me to eat, let alone, talk to them. Plus, it's always with my uncle, whom I don't really like, and then I end up spending the whole dinner silent.

But back to my original topic. I eat, and eat, and eat, and eat. One day, I had 8 pancakes, 6 sausage links, 2 plates of fruit, and I was still really hungry. Please, don't go on about how much you've eaten, I don't care. I was 12 years old, okay?

And yes, I do eat my emotions. When I'm sad, I eat. When I'm angry, I eat. When I'm happy, I (oh my god, suspense).....eat.

Sorry, I'm just rambling on and on, aren't I? Thanksgiving is not my favorite time of year, nor do I hate it.

I much prefer Christmas, since I get to stay at home and there isn't a giant dinner for me to clean up.

Thank you for reading it, it warms my heart a little knowing someone cares. JUST KIDDING. HAHAHAHAHA, no. Have fun this Thanksgiving!

    FOOOOOD!

Food is one of my favorite things in the whole world. I don't have any favorite foods though because there is way too much I like, too much to pick out anything in particular. The only food to ever almost make me puke from smell alone was eggrolls. Nobody will EVER even get me to try one because I can't sniff one without gagging horribly. I don't really have any great food stories but last year for Thanksgiving AND Christmas I was too sick to really eat anything. That was the first and only time that has ever happened to me.

    Food, glorious food.

My favorite meal is lasagna. Primarily my mum's lasagna. My favorite food is pomegranite and my favorite snack is goldfish. I like Thanksgiving enough. Meh. I make a list of things I give thanks for and help prepare food, well kind of. I'm not really allowed to cook in my kitchen so I do what I can. I like stuffing the most. Then after the day, I like to make hot turkey sandwiches with gravy on them. Nom, nom. :)

    food... mmmm

Food. I love food. Who doesn't? No one. That's who. Anyway... at Thanksgiving, my favorite foods are definitely the rolls and the gravy. They are freakishly delicious. I could eat it everyday, if they were fresh. Old gravy is kind of gross.

I really don't have a favorite food, but I do have one that I despise.

Spaghetti. I. Hate. Spaghetti. So. Much.

Most Italian food is just disgusting. That is all.

    thanksgiving

i haven't really been a fan of thanksgiving, it's really just an excuse to sit on the couch stuffing our faces while we watch football. i eat quite a bit but i don't no why i'm just never hungry when thanksgiving rolls around. the only thing i like is going to my grandparents house and seeing all of my family who live in other states.

    Foooooooooood!

I love all kinds of food. I've tried all kinds of food from around the world. (I can say that because I have been around the world) Im always one to try new food no matter how odd it looks. In general I love food.

    Thanksgiving- the best holiday

    I love Thanksgiving.
some of my favorites are Turkey (of course), mashed potatoes and gravy. Especially my grammy's gravy. It's so good.
My grandma makes a fruit salad; grapes, pineapple, marsh mellows. SO GOOD!
My mom makes sweet potatoes with marshmellows. those i could do without.
We also have ham, and my uncle makes a really good Honey-mustard sause. It's incredible.
We have huge rolls too, also made by my uncle.
My aunt makes Trukey wrapped pickels, i could do without them too.
Cranberry sauce is always good. Along with all the pies.
    Apple, Pumpkin, merionberry. Yum.
The rest of my family makes stuff too, but too many people come to remember what everyone brings.

    #8- Health Care

I know very little about Health Care.
But I think that the people that need it should get it. Case closed. Pregnant mothers, children, the elderly. Anyone who wants it, and works hard in their life should get it.

    Superstitions

Some things I do: I knock on wood. I don't know why, I think it started in club volleyball because our coach is very superstitious. Now in volleyball we all do a cheer that we did the last game that we won. Just little things like that.

    FOOD =D and stories....

Who doesn't love food??? I don't have any specific tradition for thanksgiving that we do every year because it is different every year, which i personally LOVE! Changing things up and trying new things and going different places is great! I also LOVE seafood. I enjoy trying new foods and am not a picky eater unless it comes to fast food (=EWWWWW...gag gag gag) but yes oriental and ethinic food is great, and wierd looking food, worth a try in my opinion haha.

Ok, here is my funny food story: My mom is an AMAZING cook. She can make something delicious out of nothing and it will totally be made up last minute. She doesn't measure just throws things together ans BAM! it's magnificent!!! ANYWAYS, the piont is she experiments a lot and 9 out of 10 times it's great, but one time she made these lemon bars. Now I love lemon bars. But let's just say these were in the oven a little bit to long... yeah they looked normal but were hard as rock on one side and sort of, well gooyish...ish. So we were all at the table attempting to eat them politely and my little brother (who was 8 at the time) was becoming frustrated. (We had a guest at the house and were avoiding eating them by carrying on converstaion and my brother wasn't paying attention except to the lemon bar) So because he couldn't bite into it he tried to get another piece out of the pan. He was sturggling to get it out and was using the spatuala to do this. The spatuala was almost bent in half backward when all of the sudden the piece of lemon bar he was attempting to get out came loose and was launched across the dinning room and hit the wall on the opposite side. It splattered all over and he just sat there wide eyed like he couldn't believe what had just happened. My sister and I had been the only ones who saw the whole thing happen and couldn't help ourselves, we burst out with laughter as we all stared at the lemon bar stuck to the wall. Good times... it was funnier seeing it happening then telling of the time. haha

This is another story my mom wants me to write down: (I don't remember it but have heard it several times lol) So all 5 of us kids were really little and sick. I don't know what we had but it was bad enough that our good mom was exhausted taking care of us. My dad had just gotten home (chaotic time of the day) and she was sitting us all down for dinner and doing a million things at once (like mother's do) serving us food, and making food and blah blah blah. Well in the middle of all this she see's that my little brothers nose had been running and in her thoughts makes a mental note to wipe it. SO as she's going around she's doing all these things are remembers that there is a nose to be wiped but sort of wiped the wrong nose. Instead of my little brothers she wiped my dad's! She must have been tired:P My dad says all he could do was look at her and say "Thank you??" lol....

Anyways... anything can happen at the dinner table... especially at my house! Can't wait to see what happens this year... laugh attacks like last year?? We'll see! hahahaha

    Health Care Debate=Confused Me.

First off, I don't understand politics too well, and I'm not a big debater on these type of subjects.I read a little of the stories about the health care reform which made me puzzled, because I didn't know much of what they were talking about.
I think a big problem will be the people who can't afford health care or the ones who don't have a steady job(not trying to sound like I'm blaming them.) Also the economy is getting flushed down the toilet right now, and the government trying to afford the health care reform sounds like another stress bomb on the U.S. But what else is there to do?

    Food! Nom Nom Nom!

Okay, I absolutely love food. While most kids when I was little hated broccoli, or other veggies; I loved them. I think its fun trying new food, or having a feast with friends, yet I don't over stuff myself everyday because I try not to get into bad eating habits. My favorite food would be Thai food or vegetarian lasagna.  Jello, raw onions, and water chestnuts are probably the only three foods I can think of that I dislike. I hate jello, because every Thanksgiving/Christmas my aunt brings carrot jello! One, I hate how slimy it tastes and two, carrots... in jello... really?  I'm glad onions give flavor to food, but eating them raw just makes me feel sick. Water chestnuts: never liked them never will. People think I'm odd, because I'll eat goat head soup(they skin a goat head, boil it down with veggies/spices, and you can see the skull floating in the pot) but I won't eat jello.

    Health Care

I understand the possiblity of health care being cheaper, but not free. Everyone would have to pay moer taxes, adn this would cause problems for many families that can barely pay taxes now. And the U.S. is in debt so much and it doesn'r seem like the government is doing much to get us out of it.

    Topic #9: Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is this week!  Time for large meals, family visits, leftovers, and football.  And time for us to pause and take stock, examine what we have been given, and be glad for it.

    Let's talk about food.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for one simple reason: I love food.  I like to eat, I like to be full.  I particularly love turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy, not to mention leftover turkey sandwiches that last for a week.  My wife and I make the full Thanksgiving dinner every year -- and then the two of us eat it all ourselves.  Well, not on Thanksgiving Day -- we eat leftovers for the rest of the weekend.  And the dog helps.

This Thanksgiving will be a little less enjoyable because we're having guests, which means the focus will no longer be on the massive feast, but rather on visiting with family.  That's fine, I look forward to seeing my family, but I am saddened that there will be less food for me to eat.  On the plus side, we're planning on having turkey again sometime over Christmas break, when we usually have something else, roast or ham or something not as good as turkey, so this year I get an extra turkey dinner.

Anyway.  The blog topic this week is food.  How do you feel about it, what are your favorites, what foods make you turn your nose up in disgust or horror, and are there any good stories that involve you and food?  Some response by Saturday, November 28, please.  And enjoy your vacation.

Health care, quite honestly, is a many headed beast that is such a vast topic, i cant even get my head around it. When i hear about it, i hear it from the news, the Presidential speeches, and my own parents arguing amongst themselves. But really, what is it. Why are we having reforms? Why are people so unhappy? Are they so ignorant, that they see other important people arguing that its broken, and believe that it is. Or are they justified. Do they really understand what they are talking about? Has anyone on this blog done any research o the subject? Did they do what i did, and sit down and have a lengthy conversation with their parents for their views on health care, and then immediately post it. Or did they go online, read one or two reports, or reforms, and immediately post them without really thinking about it.

In reality, this world should be run in a very Libertarian way. The government SHOULD not have anything to do with its people. Nothing. No Taxes. The government will have no regulations on business, schools, and banks. Only the military, for the governments job is to protect its people and nothing else.
Things that matter should be provided by its own personal source of funding. Schools should not be able to get funding from the government, because if truly matters, it will get a new source of income. The community will have its own way of education. Whether it be Coed home-schooling, or private schools( which are very affordable, since there are no taxes). Things like band, Choir, sports, or any extra-anything will not exist unless privately funded. If they are deemed unnecessary, and cannot be funded, they WILL NOT EXIST. That's how it should be.

Businesses will exist on how well they adapt to competition ,(competition is very good for the people BTW, because when business compete, the people win 8) ) and the ones that cant, don't survive. So things like health care will be a simple thing. Health insurance companies will want to sell people insurance, and they will compete for customers. Prices will be reasonable, and most people will be able to afford and use it. Those who cant, either will find something else that works, or not have it, and not be treated. In reality, it;s sad, but i believe that it wont be like that. Libertarianism says that the world is a place were the people of the country are protected from foreign and disturbances within the country, by their government and military. WE will adapt, since that's what the human race is best at.

    HC

health care reform is bull shit. apparently the government likes sucking up (MY) tax dollars for some lazy ass hole or bum who doesnt have the motivation to get his own money and pay for his own health care. thats right. the money the government doesnt just magically apear out of obamas ass.it comes from the workers(like most of us.) its rediculous just like the rest of the things the government does with (MY) money.but of course i could rant for days about the issues with our government and politics in perticular. they should spend the tax money on something usful to me. screw them.

All politicians lie. I am a politician.

This topic brings to mind this paradox:
The man said, "All politicians lie. I am a politician."
(It really has a possible solution, by the way. The man saying this isn't a politician, but someone lying and saying he is.)

Well, this is a subject that I know next to nothing on because I don't watch television, get a news paper, or look at internet news sites. As far as I know it is said that heath care, when reformed, will be a taxpayer supplied pool of money used for paying for basic health care. What "basic health care",however, is still something being argued.

One of the things included in the category of basic health care which is debatable is abortion. I firmly believe that this should not be so. Pregnancy is not a disease, and abortion is morally wrong. I most definitely do not want to be forced to fund abortions when I become a tax payer.
This new health care, which has been dubbed "ObamaCare", has multiple revisions and versions. The largest one, written primarily by Harry Reid, went to vote today at 8:00 Eastern Time. This massive document was 2074 pages, multiple times larger than the Old Testament". The time given to read through, understand, and think through this document, written in heavy "legalese", was about one week. Imagine needing to read through this document in a little over a week!

A couple weeks ago another such document was voted upon. This one, written by Nancy Pelosi, was a daunting 1990 pages and like the more recent one was given a little over a week for review.

These documents have many hidden costs and consequences which are well disguised and are practically impossible to detect in the time given for review. And these bills completely ignore the fact that the majority of Americans do not want to fund abortions. My mother does most all she can calling our senators, but unfortunately the government can chose to ignore the popular opinion. Americans got Obama in office, and they will need to live with him for his term.

    Health Care

the follwing is part of an article:

"Would the health care bills before Congress require that I obtain health insurance and punish me if I don't? Starting in 2013 or 2014, most Americans would be required to have health insurance coverage or face a financial penalty. Individuals would have to show proof of coverage on their federal income tax returns. Exempt from this requirement would be those with low incomes — many of whom would be covered under an expanded Medicaid program — as well as Native Americans and individuals claiming a religious exemption.
The House would require most individuals to have coverage by 2013 or pay a penalty of up to 2.5 percent of their incomes. The penalty wouldn't exceed the cost of the average plan sold in new insurance exchanges. People who don't make enough money to file income taxes would be exempt.

The Senate requirement would take effect in July 2014. The penalty for not having coverage would be $95 in 2014, $350 in 2016 and $750 in 2017 and thereafter.
You would be exempt if the cost of insurance exceeded 8 percent of your income. "

EXEMPT??? REQUIRED??? what with that? arent we all created equal? ok i think that even though we don't all make the same amount of money things should be fair. AND health care should be a CHOICE not forced or free. If people want it they can get it. And the penalites are stupid in my opinion, idk im not a fan of debating or serious topics....so yeah....

    Health Care

I think that everyone should have a chance to have health care that is good. But I do not think that it should be free! What you don't have to work for doesn't mean as much. I'm not saying that all health care should be exorbitantly high but I don't think that it should be free.

    Twilight???

    Twilight. . . . .
Why is everyone so obsessed with it? Its just a bumch of sparkling vampires playing baseball and love and drama??
I mean if your genna make a movie about vampires, dont make em' sparkle.
I know most people are obsessing over the New Moon coming out or already out and the whole "Oh Edward is so hot" or "Jacob Black is so hot". I hear that all the time in my house. I honestly think that people just like it cause most of it was filmed here or around here.

I guess this is just a rant about everyone obsessing over Twilight and New Moon. It does get annoying and people need to know how to not get some people so annoyed, and know when to stop talking about it every five seconds of the day.

    Health Care: OMGFREE?

So, personally, on the issue of health care, I believe these things:
    • First of all, free health care would be awesome (frickin' Africa has it, why not us?!)
    • I can see the negative impacts on us, though. Like for instance, taxpayers will pay an obscenely larger amount of money. Also, (from the looks of things) it apparently takes a lot of money to pass a bill.
Insurance makes things a whole lot easier, but there must be some point that insurance doesn't pay for everything. What point is that? Half a million USD? One million USD? I don't know (though someone might, maybe there isn't a limit).

A way to compromise would be to allow free health care for serious injuries and diseases, such as cancer treatment or breaking every bone in your body.

The minor things (flu, cold, a sprained arm or leg, etc) someone might be able to pay for, but there must be some point where the price becomes outrageous.

In the end, I like the idea of free health care, but that means more taxes; some of us just can't afford the... what... $30-$60 more a year? Something such as that. Though, seriously... most people would not be able to pay a $500,000 hospital bill. I'd take a little more taxes over that, myself.

The problem with this country is that we're trillions of dollars in debt, and there's no one there who is willing to help us out financially (considering that most all of the countries that could help us out, we actually owe money to).

The point is that I believe there should be cases where lower prices or no charge is given.

    Free Health Care

I dont think that this "Health Care Reform Bill" should pass. We as a country are already in debt some trillion dollars and i dont think this is the time to be spending more money. Plus once its passed then tax payers will have to pay higher taxs, and some people are aleady having trouble paying the minimum on taxes. Also we already have free health care because anyone can walk into a hospital and get all the care they need because hospitals cant turn away patients.. And when the people get the bill they really dont have to pay for it. My dad is a nurse and he says that people are constantly coming in who are drug addicts and they get some of the best care in the whole hospital, then they leave, dont follow through with rehab, only to return about a month later to get more of the same care! But thats just my opinion so dont judge me.

A random rant having to do nothing with a topic.

My best friends parents got separated this summer, they made her move with her mom to Aloah and transfer to a new school. Her grades are good but her mental and physical heath have really declined. She has lost a scary amount of wait is always sick and very rarly smiles.
My mom has offered to let her live with us just to finish high school or even just to get through this year, her parents however are not seeing this as a good thing. She told me just the other day that she cant live with her parents anymore because they are bringinng all their problems to her and not listening to hers.
I have been there to comfort her and just be with her but sometimes i just dont know what to do! Advice isnt really what i'm looking for although of course it wouldnt be turned down, i just really need to get some of it off my chest so whoever reads this, sorry for the randomness but thanks for listening.
Health care right now is completely messed up. Getting health care through work is a TERRIBLE idea. In times like this where people are losing their jobs, getting stressed out, and getting sick because of it, now have no health care and the disease continues to spread. Guess what, now their children are sick. They are suffering and then other family members want to help then they get sick and so on. It is a big nasty chain of "Hey, F-you hard workers who unfortunately and tragically lost your jobs!". As if they don't have enough to worry about. We need a more affordable option outside of work. Honestly, how many times have you heard the line, "Where are my tax dollars going?". However, now it's a good idea that when even less people are paying their taxes, we should use them for health care. CRAP!

    Of all subjects.

Health care is something that should be easy to get. Apparently, if you're uninsured and have something like a gunshot wound then you are twice more likely to die than the guy in the next room over with a head injury. Why? Because he has insurance. Sure, maybe he doesn't pay his rent on time and he has a marijuana farm but he is going to live! You on the other hand, who has three beautiful kids, a nice wife, went to Harvard but lost your job at Intel three months ago so insurance is a no-no (wifey stays at home with the kiddos). Welcome to your deathbed, son.
This is just an example I made up. It seems relevant and makes sense to me. Sure, it's kind of a long shot given the two types of examples of men but it could happen, aye?
Just an emphasis on insurance. I don't quite understand it but this is what I got as a point. If you dislike it, sorry buddy but it's just an opinion.

    Furry health care.... ew..

Health care... reminds me of mold. Idk why. Thus the furrieness. Not to mention, this subject is very hairy. The general feeling from everyone is "we need it, but we can't pay for it..." or something to that affect. Actually we can pay for it. We could be like Sweden and just give up half our salary, but I'm not hot on the idea of of that. If my starting job makes 30,000 a year, I would make 15,000 a year. Poverty line is 18,000. yowch! In other countries that the government pays for health care, you get an operation/appointment, but you might have to wait eight months. That would suck.
    [a story by Vowen]
Bam!! "Biscuts and gravey, I've been shot!" said Joe as he gets capped in the gut. Later that night after he had been taken to the hospital; "We can remove the bullet from his liver..." trailed off the doctor. "Excelent! when will he get it removed?" asked a loving mother. "...in ten weeks," The doctor added. *evil music* The end!!! I wouldnt want to be like joe. Would you?? *points quivering finger*

    (did you like my story?)

Ok. So those are some examples of what's gone wrong in other countries. I'm going to metion what I think is a smart idea about our country. and some of course some thoughts mixed in randomly. Our country obviously doesnt have the money to provide it, nor the people power to support it. Mi opinion is that people power to support the whole bemurffled situation. IF a new health care plan does come into affect that supports everyone, I could only imagine that there would be a flood of people. we would need more people. In reality, there is only one health program for peple to become nurses in oregon. Mostlikely, there arent many programs in any of the other states. In Oregon there are thousands of people waiting to get in to the program. This is purposturous! Another genious idea to save money is to pay the health employies less! They dont need 600,000 dollars a year. With More employies needed to support the incoming population, it's unlikely to workout paying so much. I think that if the government would provide a suitable enough plan, we as a people would provide enough money.

    health care...blah

I think that we need a public option that can healp keep the coast of private health care down. I would also healp give people a real option outside of buying it through there work, one that is affordable.

    Luck and Health Care

Luck. I've never really thought seriously about it. When I think about it, some people do seem to have good luck, or sometimes bad luck, and I feel I have both sometimes, but I don't wiegh too heavily upon it. I don't really believe in luck, I just acknowledge it's existence, just the same as I would bigfoot or the toothfairy, It's not real in the physical world, but it's a real thing in our minds, if that makes sense.

Health care....I don't trouble myself with. I don't have to yet, so I don't. Health care should be available to anyone. I believe we should have something more along the lines of what the UK has for health care, where money comes out of the taxes so everyone gets health care. But hey. Personally I think our government sucks, to put it lightly (even though we have it much better than the rest of the world which I appreciate) So, I'm not surprised this problem isn't being solved. But hey that's just me.

    catching up

ugh, i have so much catching up to do.
    topic 6.
i am scared of whales. and not just any whales, orca whales. the ones people call killer whales. i am scared to death of them, and have to worst nightmares of getting eaten by them. im giving myself the willies just thinking about them....
    topice seven.
having grown up in a highly democratic house, i was exposed to politics, and elections and such, but never health care. so i'm sorry to say, i have to thoughts about it. i'm 16 and when i move out i will think about it then. but now, i'm too worried about what kanye west will do at the next awards, and if edward will ever come to sweep me off my feet. (i am being sarcastic, i hate edward. go jacob. [again, kidding. i dont care])
i also always wear my high top black converse when i want something good to happen. they are my good luck charm.

    Health Care.

Personally I think that they are going in the completely wrong direction with health care reform. It's gonna cost too much for the government and for citizens. And why the hell would it ever be a good idea to depend on taxes that are most likely not gonna get paid because nobody wants the government creeping in on their lives.

Guess what America, the constitution is set in place to give us our FREEDOM, not allow the government to control our lives. Less government is extremely better.

    Health Care and what-not.

Okay, well I'm not going to claim that I know anything about this issue, I wish I watched the news more often but I don't. But sometimes I hear some debates, (i.e. when my parents yell at each other about it.) and I know a few things...

Like I don't think that abortion should be covered. I don't believe in abortion, I think it's cruel, but that's just me. I think money for killing babies is a waste of money.

Also, I really don't know where the standing is for health care right now, but I think everyone should get it. It is waaaay too complicated to get healthcare right now, especially if your job doesn't cover it. If you live with someone (we're talking live, not live off of) that makes too much money, then the oregon health plan won't accept you. Like my sister is trying to get insurance right now because she is pregnant. But since she lives with her boyfriend, they won't accept her because he makes too much money. How is that okay?

I don't know, I guess I just don't understand why we are having all of these problems anyway.

To be insured, or not to be insured.

Well, let me start off saying this; I think it's unfair when certain work sites don't supply health care. I know it's fairly expensive, but I don't know, my father is a finish carpenter, and he does not get health care. He could seriously get hurt, and he wouldn't have any insurance to cover it. I mean, seriously?

I believe the elderly deserve health care more, of course, since they are more...what's the word? Weak? Anyways, their immune system doesn't function as well, so they should be made sure to get health care.

But what about children that are born with poor immune systems? Or people with diabetes? Or homeless people? I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense to the topic, but so many people (Well, I should say all) deserve health care, but we don't have enough money.

I don't know a whole lot about this whole issue, but (I don't know if this makes sense either) before Barack Obama got elected president, he said he would lower the costs. Is that necessarily working? Again, I don't pay attention the health care subjects, but I can't really make any great points, all I know about it is that, as I said before, every one should receive it, but of course, we don't have the money, I believe partly because of the economy?

    health care

health care and the government in general is really screwed up and corrupt right now. i like to watch political shows on TV like the colber report (how ever you spell it) the daily show with john stewart and the bill maher show. united health care would be a good thing. it's the insurance companies that are the real problem. they are just a middle man who does not serve a purpose except to take our money and get rich. they won't get rid of it because they are greedy BASTARDS!

    topic number 7 or 8

    Topic #7

Health care is one of the major things that people are struggling with, I see that in my family not everyone has a job so they lost there health care and are having health problems now that they have lost it, as Nate said I dont know all that much about politics and those types of things.
But what I do see from the news that I do watch is that people in our society is dying and they are in the hospitals and dont have health care and so there familys are having to pay for the bill and then it screws them over because they dont have anymore money. I think that health care should be free, or what ever and that everyone should be able to have some sort of health care even if its not full coverage and not have to sped all that much money.

    The Healthcare reform.

Ok, right now I feel that our government is pretty corrupt and unjust. Not because of any specific person or anything. I just think that as a whole it has somewhat moved in the wrong direction as to what everybody wants and needs. Like, with healthcare, I think we need to move to universal healthcare because so many people aren't being treated for something that needs to be treated for them to live. I'm not going to go further into it though cuz I don't really know what I'm talking about. I don't know a lot about politics. I just have some of my little, probably skewed, opinions.

    Topic #8: Health Care Debate

We have now finished our study of poetry, and so we now begin our time digging deep into cold, hard reality: non-fiction reading, state assessments, formal essays.  In order to reflect that, this week's blog topic will not be concerned with touchy-feely personal matters, not with delving into your values and idiosyncrasies -- this time, it's just going to be the facts, all the facts, and nothing but the facts.

Actually, this kind of discussion often tells you more about the individual communicating to you than any personal exploration would.  But we'll keep that a secret.

For our first issue, I thought we should begin with what seems the most contentious and controversial issue in the country today: health care reform (Thanks for the suggestion, Eldon.).  Here is a page full of stories, from MSN -- forgive me if this is what you consider a biased source; it is not my intention to suggest you lean one way or the other with your opinion on this.  Feel free to suggest another source if you find it more objective and reasonable. At any rate, the page has several articles that explain different aspects of the debate over health care reform, if you want to do any research or don't feel informed enough to state an opinion.  Click here.

Some possible ways to respond to this are:
*Quite simply, what do you think our country should do about health care reform?
*What do you think is the real problem?  What is the source of the problem?
*How would you describe our national politicians, and/or our political system, after seeing how this issue has been handled?  Has this changed, or confirmed, your opinions?
*Since more Americans get their primary news coverage from either Jon Stewart on the Daily Show, or FOX News, how much of this debate, and this issue, is exaggerated?  How much of the struggle we are seeing is political maneuvering?  How does the media influence our nation's handling of this and other similar issues?

It is not acceptable to simply post that you don't care, don't want to care, and have nothing to say on this issue.  I am open to suggestions for future topics that might be more interesting to you, but this is the topic for the week, and you will all post a reasonable response to it.  Thank you.  Oh, and no: I'm not going to post my opinion.

**Special Note: Since this week's topic is a matter of debate, you will also be required to comment on two posts from your classmates this week. Please be polite and respectful, but also substantive and genuine.

My life is a bucket of irony. YAY! farts...

I don't really believe in luck. Things happens because they happen. while other things happen because something caused them purposely (poop being thrown. SPLAT!!*imagine poo rolling down your face*). It's all fun though. I know that none of my wishes have worked out so I dont believe because of that. It I had been given my wishes, some of you reading this would possibly be dead. Have a nice day. Black cats scare the crap out of me more than anything else. How would you like to be crapping out in the woods and see a pair of eyes looking at you? It wasnt comforting... I'm having way too much fin with these colors. They make me happy :) Koo-koo-ka-choo!!! IF it was up to me, I would jinx everything as much as i could, but peuople wouldn't be happy with me. Someone would end up throwing something at me. And my girlfriend would probably threaten me... multiple... times... Then I would have to do something.

Superstitions. Luck. Do they exist, or rather, will what rumors say what will happen, happen(in the case of superstitions.) I think not. If you walk under a standing ladder, do you have bad luck for ___(insert # of years here) really? What is luck? The following are two definitions of Luck
1.The force that seems to operate for good or ill in a person's life, as in shaping circumstances, events, or opportunities.
2.Good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance.
The first definition of luck seems to hint that there is something else out there shaping how events are going to happen, something "throwing the dice for you." Is this really possible? I suppose it depends on your views of the world, I would say that most people who are religious might lean towards this, saying something along the lines of ____(insert higher being/path of life here) willed it, but lets not assume anything.
The second definition is a little more believable, in my view, there is nothing rolling the dice for you, you are in effect rolling the dice. Lets say you succeeded in getting that job at Wendy's Astrophysics, you spent twelve years in college to be able to qualify for such a job, and had a two year internship. You applied for this job knowing that there were others in the field who had eighteen+ years in college and more than five of that as experience. You took a chance, and it paid off. You rolled the dice and and came out with the "Dark Ones Own Luck"(ha, knew I could fit that in somewhere...)
Things happen randomly. I don't really believe in any superstitions, though referencing them is always fun. I don't really believe in luck either.
But as a human I don't know everything, who knows what's out there?

    Topic 7

Im not really superstitious but i enjoy pretending i am just because its fun and stupid. I have been jinxed though like thousands of times, i jinx myself like every day.
Im not to much into halloween except for the candy! I think scary halloween movies are andpretty much anything else on halloween thats supposed to be scary.

    Luck

I guess I believe in luck. Luck is a very weird thing. Sometimes it helps you, sometimes aginst you, and that's why I don't like to depend on it. I would rather be good at something then really lucky. Though it would be nice to be both. I don't want to depend on it too much because then you might just run out of luck. So I guess I do believe in luck.

    Superstition blah

I like the idea of friday the thirteenth and all bt honestly nothing tragic has ever happened to me on that day than would ever happen to me on any other day of the week or year, i only like it to taunt other people and go "ooh its friday the thirteenth watch out" and yea if i say something at the same time as someone else I'll say jinx. So yea not real superstitious .

    Superstitions and the Such

Of course when I was a little girl I believed in superstitions. I would believe that wishing on shooting stars, and wishing everytime I put a penny in a little 'magical' box I had, and holding my breath and closing my eyes while going threw tunnels would actually work. But of course it usually never did. So I got angry and gave up on all my superstitous beliefs. I came to realize they didn't work. But then again I believe everyone has good and bad luck. I do kind of believe in karma and I try to do things that are the right thing to do, so that good things will happen to me. Although that doesn't work. Well maybe it does. But not fully.

Friday the 13th did kind of scare me, because I worry a lot about the people I love, and I worry about their safety and whatnot... So maybe I am superstitious in some ways. I think everyone is. No matter how skeptical they are about these kinds of things.

    Luck

Hmm...luck to me is...interesting. I believe in luck, i find it kind of cool how it can work for and against you. As for trinkets and things like that concerning luck i think they do help. Probably 7 years ago or so i had gotten a rabbits foot from the dentist, which i put in my mom's ford focus and since she has had that she hasn't been in a wreck or gotten a ticket. It's been put in the two other vehicles that she has gotten since then and still no incidents. Heh, maybe she's just lucky :).

    Lucky or not?

To tell the truth i cant say i "believe" in luck or that i dont. it is kinda sketchy and odd to think about. But i do tend to like to do alot of things for good luck and especially find comfort in it. for me, its a way to help think positive. i do have a golf ball i always bring to cross country races for good luck in my race. it is kinda a way to stay pumped, but i also feel that it is "lucky".

Gotta make sure to put that horseshoe around my neck...

Well, I'm just gonna start off with the whole, black cat thing.
My best friend has 2 black cats, and I haven't gotten any sort of bad luck from them, except probably the fact that I have tripped, but that is most likely because of the fact that it needs to be cleaned, bad.

The superstition that if you walk under a ladder, it will fall on you, I find to make perfect sense. I mean, if you walk under someone whose using the ladder for some sort of activity, they could out of nowhere totally just fall then crush you, then you couldn't breath, then you'd go to the hospital, then almost die, but the doctor save you. Yeah, that would ruin my day completely.

Personally, I find the objects to be used as "good luck charms" to be bogus. How does a rabbit's foot give you good luck. Isn't that kind of ironic, how that rabbit would have to probably been killed or hunted to obtain that foot, and it gives you good luck?

In the end, I don't really believe in all the superstition stuff. I do believe in bad luck, but it's not occurred by specific actions or objects.

Every time I see a rabbit's foot, I think of this

    Luck or no Luck?!?

I dont really know...honestly no I dont believe in luck. I believe everything happens for a reason and if something good happens than its not luck its just a gift. Like when people make a wish at 11:11, I do that but I dont really know if its luck. Like I think of luck as like a wish. If you make a wish and you work towards it and it comes true, I dont think thats luck, I think that you believed in yourself or someone else so it came true. Or you workeed towards what you wanted so it came true. I say good luck to people before a game or something, but for me it means like play hard and do your best, not really luck. I dont know its hard to explain. Luck is confusing...
But I think if you try hard or do something to get to where you wanna go then yeah you will get there. But if something good or bad happens I dont think about good luck or bad luck. I believe EVERYTHING happens for a reason. good or bad.

    Lucky pennies

I don't really believe in "luck". Sometimes things make an unexpected turn for the better but I think that's just how life rolls. I do like the idea of lucky pennies though. When I find a heads up penny I know that it won't give me good luck but it usually puts me in a better mood because hey I just found I heads up penny :) and then I try harder at what ever I'm doing and end up being better. So I don't believe in luck but I believe in lucky pennies and their mood changing ability.

    Am i lucky??

I honestly dont know if i belive in luck or not, but if it is out there i sure as heck have bad luck..

I admit that I believe in good luck.

I believe in good luck as an excuse for good things that happen to me that I haven't an explanation for. I used to carry around a coin with a four leaf clover on it... But I lost it. I only feel bad because it was a gift and I knew I'd lose it even after promising that I would try very, very hard not to lose it.
Anywho, I believe in karma. I believe in luck... But I don't really believe in bad luck type of deals such as a black cat crossing your path, etc. I suppose I believe in luck more than bad luck because good luck is more general than bad luck. Ha...
I don't quite feel satisfied with this answer but I don't quite know how I feel about the topic so I am going to submit this as it is now.

    luck or not

to tell the truth i don't really believe in luck. i mean i'll say things like "good luck" or "that's just a bit of bad luck" but that's about it. i don't believe that wishing on stars or number will do anything, i guess it's fun and all but the people who depend on things like that are just pathetic. i think that everything happens for a reason.

    fear

when i was little and we had just moved from the city i had a phobia, that was of killers. i would always get so freaked out and think about just some random guy coming into my house a slaughtering all of my family. i got over that as i aged and now i really don't have any fears at all

    My phobia

I don't really have any rational fears.. That's not to say I don't get scared though. I don't really like to walk around alone at night because there's always the possibility that someone might attack me for my money or something.
I do, however, have a phobia. That is spiders. I would honestly rather die than have a turantula on me because I am so afraid of them. I can't even look at pictures of spiders without going in to some kind of weird convulsing fear. Just ask all of my so called "friends".

Now about the halloween stuff, I don't believe in ghosts or any other supernatural thing of that type.

dogs with a lot of teeth and clovers with a lot of leaves!

These topics are almost the same so I shall answer them both in one post.

I have a hard time thinking of things that I am afraid of. I am not afraid of water and drowning, nor of the dark, supernatural things, or of death. I love the dark and enjoy being in it.
I do have a slight fear of dogs, however, especially large ones. I got bit by one when I was young, and I just don't enjoy being around large decedents of wolves that could kill me. Not likely, of course since I know the dog is (hopefully) docile. I know the owner knows it, but does the dog know it? Apparently some dogs don't because a big one chomped the hand of my grandpa recently.

As for superstitions I have even less of those, none, in fact. I have a clover patch in my yard that one can always find a couple 4-leaf clovers in. They are a little more rare, but I can also often find some 5-leaf ones too. I think they are neat, not because I think that they give me luck, but because it is just really cool to have them as curiosities.
I also have 4 rabbits' feet; however, they just happen to still be on a live rabbit. This rabbit is also rather neat. She weighs a whopping twenty something pounds and is about 2 feet long! (though some people don't believe me.)

    Four Leaf Clover

I can't say I believe in luck itself, but I am deffinately a believer in karma. I don't think I have good luck or bad luck, I just get what I give. Searching for a four leaf clover for example is a waste of time. Finding one isn't going to make your day get brighter or your life any more meaningful. I keep a small shell in my purse at all times and have been asked if it is my good luck charm. The answer is no. I keep it because it is from someone I care a lot about and came from the beach (my favorite place to be come summer or winter). I sometimes make a wish at 11:11 for the fun of it, but not because I ever expect it to come true. Luck is just another excuse for people to use when something bad happens or something to boast about when something good does.

    Late!

Topic 6: So my biggest fear would probably be 1) needles 2) spiders and 3) warehouses. Why? Well I have always had a phobia of needles, ever since I got blood taken when I was five. Whenever I go in to get shots from the doctor, I have to lay down while they give me the shot, otherwise I pass out. Spiders, on the other hand have always been a fear of mine. I cannot stand them, and I have to stay at least ten feet away from them. I know it might sound lame, but I feel like they're gonna jump on me and bite me whenever I'm around them. Three, warehouses. I feel like I'm scared of warehouses that have a lot of power tools/obstacles in them, or big open empty warehouses, because they are scary, dark and you never know what's in them. Especially if they're abandoned.

Topic 7: I'm not quite sure if I believe in luck yet. I've had a lot of lucky things happen to me, but I've had even more unlucky things happen to me. It isn't really a topic I put most of my focus into, and I never wish at 11:11 or anything for lucky things to happen to me, because I usually get the opposite. I mostly get lucky things to happen to me when I'm least expecting them, so usually I just keep my focus elsewhere.

    Luck

I do belive in luck because when I was little I had a dog, she ran away, got hit by a semi truck, was still alive and then my uncle found her and brought her home. That dog was everything to me and I was lucky to still have her.

    Luck.

I once had a kitten named Lucky. Really original, right? But we named her that for a reason. When Lucky was born, her cord was wrapped around her neck, just like with humans sometimes. We thought she was a stillborn, but my mom managed to free her and get her breathing. That alone made her lucky, but when she was only a few weeks old, really little and fluffy and cute, she climbed up under our suburban and sat up there, probably napping. When my mom took the car to drop my sister off at a friend's, Lucky went too, but fell out of the car half way there. When my mom got back, we were already looking for Lucky and eventually someone realized she was probably in the car again. It started to rain really hard but we went out looking for her anyway. We must have gone up and done that street 12 times, but finally I heard a little mew in the pounding of the rain. It was extremely lucky.

So my point, (I don't mean to bore you with kitten stories), is that yes, I believe in luck. But I also think that you can make your own luck.

    fear..hmm.

Well, I'm very easily frightened, to say the least. Jump out at me? I'll jump. Walk toward me in the dark? I'll run away. Make weird noises outside my window, yeah I'll freak out. (This has actually been done, I'm not just making weird things up.) Scary movies? Even ones that are really lame, scare me while I'm watching them. Afterwards, when I think about how lame they are, I'm not scared but when the lights are out, I'm a jumpy freak. Lady In The Water? Yeah I saw it. Though I would never suggest it to you, I jumped in the theatre. Darkness Falls? That movie is pretty cheap and lame, but it still scares me to this day. So yeah, I get scared really easily.

As for ghosts, witches, vampires and the like, I do believe that they could be out there. I especially believe in ghosts, and I think that I have one following me around. If I were at home I would put the picture of my ghost up here, but alas, I am not.

Sure, spiders and snakes are really freaking creepy, and I generally try to avoid them, but what really gets to me are those disgusting black beetles with the red and orange stripes. Just thinking about them makes me shiver. They are always flocking around my house, behind it on the walking path, on the street, creeping into my house at every chance they get. Ughhhh, I hate those suckers.

    luckey duckey

i like to beleive in luck .. but the truth is .. that a rabbits foot probably isnt gonna get you very far in life ...i personally have some amounts of luck .. but there very faint

    scaredy cats

i am afraid of horror movies , the witch from the wizard of oz, stepping on a samll dog and killing it, spiders, thunder, lightning, and the dark

    I'm so lucky, lucky.

The days I feel lucky are when something good happens which I wouldn't imagine or think is possible on that day. I wouldn't say I have good luck or bad luck because I believe its all a chance, 50/50.  Maybe some people feel they always have bad luck, and maybe... they do, yet someday I believe good luck will arrive to them sooner or later. I'm not superstitious such as, "step on a crack and you'll break your mother's back!" or "don't open umbrellas indoors." I have opened an umbrella indoors, or have spilt salt and bad luck didn't strike me after that. Friday the 13th, doesn't scare me, though on the thirteenth I think its sometimes fun to be over dramatic in superstition with friends. I don't know many people who are superstitious, because whenever I was little and believed in superstition I was told, "Get over it, Stop crying, You won't really break your mom's back." I believe those are all myths that can be used as pranks, or if you do believe in them: don't let them take over your life and stop you from doing things.

    The "Idea" of Luck

Luck is just an idea, conjured by man to explain probability. The idea of a supernatural force, making things go your way is preposterous... I guess. The only real reason I don't believe in it is because I would be an unlucky person, and without luck, my title is "recipient of a series of unfortunate events", and I enjoi that.

    Luck or unlucky?

I never have really thought about my luck before. I don't find myself as a lucky or unlucky person, nor do I entirely believe in it. I think everything happens for some reason. But I do find myself knocking on wood all the time =P Maybe I just do it as a social thing. I don't know how to explain it, like because everyone else does, it's just what everyone does and understands. But after reading what Mr. Humphrey wrote i realize how silly it really is. Sometimes i think having luck would be pretty nice. Like a lucky necklace or something. It would really help in some situations. Such a s last week. (I'm pretty sure I knocked on wood about this too) haha. I said "Wow, sure glad I'm not sick yet, knock on wood." rap-tap-tap Guess what I got sick (hence the reasons for my absences) There, to me, is no proof of luck since my knocking on wood didn't work!! cough, cough. Anyways, I'm not really sure what else to say about superstitions except I'm not a huge believer in them, but find them interesting (especially to observe lol)

    Answers to #6 and #7

I know I'm a bit late on this.

    For topic 6:
I'm scared of lots of crap for no apparent reason. I'm scared of insects, spiders, heights, death (of me or someone I know), pain, the dark, and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff I can't even think of. My fear of spiders and insects is completely rationalized by this fact: they're creepy-crawlies, and I don't like them. As for heights, I didn't use to be scared of them, but one day I got on a Ferris wheel, and oh boy, no way! Death is rationalized by the fact that no one wants to die unless they're tired of life. And for pain, I'm just scared of pain. I've had too many emotional and physical distresses to live with pain any longer. Fear of the dark is never really fear of the dark; it's fear of what lurks in the dark. I'm a huge scaredy-cat, and I believe in all manner of things; cryptids, ghosts, demons. Finally, I'm really scared of ending up like either of my parents. I won't go into any details on that one.

    For topic 7:
I know for a fact I have entirely bad luck. I've never won a contest that actually mattered to me, I'm always this close to winning. I also got my first cavity a couple nights ago, and we don't have any dental insurance. I also got the flu after I went to the doctor. Finally, I lost my entire math notebook with all of my math notes for most of the year, and I need it for my homework. I'm also very superstitious. I knock on wood when I think something bad might happen, and I see that I actually have better luck when I pick up a heads-up penny or carry around my rabbit's foot. When I was younger, I used to say "bread and butter" when I was walking with my mom and we were separated by poles and other people. I didn't really understand what it was back then, but I do now. I also know a lot about superstition; one of my favorite tales is that people started to say "God bless you" when someone sneezed because they believed that the soul flew out of the body and went wandering and could be stolen by the Devil. You could prevent this by saying "God bless you", thereby returning the soul to the body. For a touch back on the previous topic, I said I believed in all manner of things. I'm very superstitious about all of these. I believe that just because you can't see it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I also believe that anything is possible; when you really think about it, the Earth is big, and we've not discovered even a quarter of all living species on it. Who says that there's no Sasquatch, Loch Ness monster, Chupacabra, or anything else people believe in? I even think that if there's someone to believe it, it's real.

    Topic #7: Press Your Luck

This was a heavy week, this last week. With midterms, and grades, and the military's invasion of SHHS, I think there's been enough deep thinking and ponderous, somber hearts. And yet, it is still the Most Evil Time Of The Year, so we can't just start talking about kittens and rainbows.

So let's go with luck. And superstitions.

(Big bucks, no whammies, no whammies, no whammies . . . STOP!)

Many people say they don't believe in superstitions; they scoff at the idea that rubbing a potato on your warts and then burying the potato in a graveyard at midnight will make the warts disappear. Or the one about black cats crossing your path, or saying "Bread and butter" whenever you and a friend walk on opposite sides of something.

But those same people will be the most assiduous in avoiding the Jinx, the modern version of the Evil Eye or the Devil himself.

We all know the Jinx -- it is the reason that the superstition that has lasted from older times to now is knocking on wood, originally intended to startle the evil spirits that lived inside wood (trees are bad -- the forest is the Devil's place; just read The Wizard of Oz, or "Hansel and Gretel") and now seen as a valid protection against saying something foolish like "I've never broken a bone." Heaven forbid you add something like, "And I never will." That's just asking for trouble. But if you knock on wood, you might be safe. Of course, Murphy's Law, which we also believe in with great regularity and fervor, also convinces us that you are likely going to break a bone no matter what you do, and that it will most likely be the night before your wedding when you do it. Because anything bad that can happen, will happen. Right?
(By the way: if you don't believe in luck as an actual force, then Murphy's Law, or the opposite -- the idea that you're "due for a win" after some large number of losses in a row -- are both logically false.  Every time you take a chance of something happening, the chances are not changed by past results, only by current circumstances.  I'm just sayin'.)

So the names have changed a little bit -- we don't talk about drawing the eye of Satan any more -- but we still have all the superstitions we once did, it seems to me. Now we just talk about luck. And the power of positive thinking.

So my question is, what do you believe about luck? Do you have good luck or bad luck? Do you do anything to preserve or change your luck? What superstitious habits, if any, do you have? Can you think of any other superstitions that people seem to follow?

    my fears....

I dont like bridges, spiders, and scary movies!!!

    Fears

Well I've never liked bugs. Especially spiders.
I don't like the dark. The thought of what's in the dark has always scared me.
I do like scary movies, but they do scare me. They scare me a lot actually. I don't know why I like watching them but I do!
I have believed in ghosts for a long time. The thought is entertaining/frightening.
OH the game Silent Hill, and the movie. Soooo scary. I still have nightmares about that game. Sirens give me chills.

Serious fears include being stuck in St. Helens and losing the ones I love.
    Depressing thoughts like that.
I don't like the feeling of my serious fears.

    My fears.

I'm afraid of dying. Isn't it the ultimate fear!? I don't understand people who aren't. I'm also afraid of real life things like getting mugged or raped. I can't sympathize with people who are scared of ghosts and little dead girls, I mean come on! Watching " The Shining" Isn't going to make you're dad turn into a raving murderous lunatic. IT'S A MOVIE. I'm also afraid of 2012. I know it's ridiculous, and I hate myself for fearing it, but hey, I can't help it. And my ultimate worst fear is rejection and being a dissapoinment.

    My Fears

i'm afraid of losing a member of my family, and things in the dark. I'm not araid of the dark, just what's in it (murderers, rapists, and other people like that.) . Other than that, i'm not really "afraid" of much. i don't like spiders, but they don't scare me. Vampires, ghosts, Goblins and werewolves don't scare me, i actually wish Vampires and werewolves were real. (Edward & Jacob)

    It's inevitable...

My greatest fear is of whats to come. Many a night, I lay awake thinking and worrying over what is on the path that I travel. On this road, I can't help to think about the bridges that i have alraedy burned, where my destination lies and what disease that is going to end my journey before its time. I also can't help but worry over the paths that my friends travel on. I worry that i did not do enough when our paths met, to send them on a path with a greater destination. I worry over the roads that I will start for my children, and the road that my spouse and I choose to walk together. It may be an irrational fear, but real never the less.

    Phobic

I have agoraphobia, or fear of large open spaces and being alone in them mostly. I hate being alone in like the middle of a large open field where you see no one around you, you see too much of the sky and just nothingness. Deserts would probably be my end if I was alone in one because I would probably curl up in a ball or between some rocks where I would be in a claustrophobic safeness. I love tight small spaces where I feel safe. I'm afraid of guys, and afraid to trust. Yea, I know afraid of guys ha-ha but seriously if you knew more about why.... I usually stick that feeling of fear in a bottle and cap it tight, but at certain times it breaks through. Trust because I've had promises broken secrets I've told re-shared to the wrong people and just people turning on me, or lying. But perhaps I'm too gullible.

    Feared

I can't really think of anything I am in fear of. I guess I would be feared of what I don't know. Like if my lif is going to turn out good, or am I going to be a homeless person in Portland? I am hoping I don't turn into the second one, but I don't know...

    Feared

    Fear

Well... i guess i am afraid of the things i am not expecting. Like when i go to a scary movie or something, and i know the bad guy is going to be behind the door i usually won't get scared when he jumps out and everyone else scream because they were TOTALLY not expecting it. Heh, but if im just hanging out of whatever and something happens thats scary and im not expecting it well, then i'll get scared. I would also have to think that near death situations would be very scary as well.

    FEAR!!

UM i think im honestly afriad of being alone expecially at night i start to think of the movie strangers or the panic room and i get all scared. when im home alone i usually turn on all the lights and lock all windows and doors so nothing can come in and my step dad taught me to use our gun if anything like that happened to me while being home alone. i love being scaried i love scary movies and haunted houses and things like that as long as im not alone

    Scariest Thought

I think what I'm most scared of is being hurtful to my family in a way that I can't fix. I sometimes yell at my brother and mouth off to my parents and tell my sister that I can't wait for her to go to college but it's always something that I can fix. I simply apologize and then do something to reconnect with them. But what if I say something to one of my family members that makes my relationship with them so strained that I can't fix it with an apology and some reconnecting time. That would be the worst thing! (My brother is reading over my shoulder and told me that I would just have to buy him cheeze-its. So he's covered :) I wonder if that would work with my sister and parents if I did something to them)

    Life After death

i am most afraid of what will happen when i die. I'm a christian and i believe that i will live in heaven forever but what if im wrong, then what will happen? Will i just cease to exist? What will happen to my soul or mind? It's just weird/scary to think about.
    post for topic 4

i believe in school spirit, but i think we should not force people to go to pep assembly's. i think that pep assembly's should be held after school for only for those who want to go. but if we do hold them after school then not many people would go because they need to get home or live to far away.

and going off of the pride in your family name, i do because many people from my family have gone on to do good after high school, or during it.

topic 3 post... a little late

i believe that a totem for me would probably be the cross. I know that is the symbol for christianty but it can also represent me. i believe this can represent me because i am a christian, but also because i try to reflect the image of jesus through my actions. Now i know that isn't true at all times but i try anyway. If anyone can come up with a different symbol, please tell me.

    Post for topic #2

I believe that lying is wrong. i know that people lie to save their own butts or protect others but lying is still wrong. I believe that you should always try to tell the truth even i you get in trouble. I know i'm not perfect and that i lie but i try my best not to.

    Fearful

    I fear four main things:

    Spiders.

Spiders are so far beyond creepy! They have way more legs than necessary - okay well maybe necessary to them but whatever, it's creepy. They bite which leaves a nasty itch, the feeling of them crawling along my bare skin sickens me, and humans consume them in their sleep. To top it off when I was seven I left a pair of slip-on shoes on the back deck one day. When I went to get them I slid one foot half way in and what I saw in the corner of my eye was enough to make me cry - which I probably did. Atleast a hundred newly hatched tiny green spiders were crawling sparatically over my foot and up my leg. I screamed and shook them off in a panic. Ever since then, the sight of the smallest spider gives me shivers and has the ability to make me cry.

    Bees.

I've always been nervous of many bees being near me, obviously because I don't want to be stung. But recently I had a freak experience that made me more nervous about them than I have ever been. I was at the beach with my boyfriend and still had clothes on over my bathing suit. I went to set down my stuff and as I did I noticed a furry, bear-sized bee circling me. In a panic over its abnormally huge size, I fled. It followed me and I headed straight for the water. Without thinking about anything other than it wasn't a good day to die, I dove in. My cell phone was in my pocket and my normal clothes were drenched. Ever since, I do the annoying girly squeel and run.

    Small Spaces.

When I was three I was in a car accident that involved the car flying off an embankment so large that it actually rolled a few times. I was not yet buckled when it happened - as it was the result of a drunk driver, and I fell out the window. The impact made me lose conscienceness and it took my family hours to find me. I am not afraid of cars and I don't get nervous in them, but I think it caused me to fear small spaces.

    Not Being Able To Scream.

I have had many dreams over the course of my life where I am in danger and can't scream. I will open my mouth and try crying out for help and nothing comes out. It's like watching a scary movie on mute. It is horrible and I am really afraid that if something ever happens and I need to scream for help I won't be able to. I don't know why I have dreams that way or what influenced it, but it's my final fear.

    FEAR

What am I scared of? Wellllll..... probably fear itself. I don't like the feeling of fear, the sudden pulsing and dizzyness and the sweating. Pure fear, being truely frightened and scared. It just is no fun. BUT, I do enjoy some thrill. It's wierd. I guess I just need a little excitment. Such as rollarcoaters, oh yeah! Those are a BLAST to me! I'm a big rider. I think that mostly I like them so much becasue I know, or greatly hope I'll get off when it's over and not die on it or anything. I just enjoy the moment. Think about the "could-be's" and "what-if's" later.

I fear for others more than I think I fear for myself. All my nightmares are of others being hurt or harmed. I fear the feeling of loss. I have never had a huge loss in my life yet and I'm nervous to see how I would handle it.

I'm slighly scared of the dark. Sometimes I let my imagination get the best of me, other times I try to think more realisticly. But every once and awhile I find myself darting up the dark staircase from the unfinished basement through the hallway to my room at night ;) Who knows?? There are spiders down there for sure!!! lol I hate spiders. I don't fear them as much as i dislike them. They are creepy, crawly and NASTY! I love snakes though.

Halloween costumes and "Creatures" and whatnot is not scary to me. What's scary is real-life. Like REAL creepy guys and REAL killlers and murders and REAL...yeah you get it.

But other than these things, at the moment i can't think of too many other things i fear. I'm pretty brave I suppose;P

For me, its pretty hard to think of what im scared of. perhaps uncertainty of what will happen in my life. i have always, as far back as i can remember, always thought of and had some sort of plan for what my future would be like. but if something were to happen and these things dramatically change and break apart,it would be chaos for me. thats what scares me. and i am also deathly afraid of horses. i hate those god-damn things. everytime i see one i just want to shoot it in the face. they are big and freaky. always hated em.

    scary? Pffft!!

I'm not really scared of much. I have no phobias, I'm not afraid of dieing, vampires and werewolves are funny, no insect scares me, and I know failure will happen whether i like it or not so I don't worry about that. I'm only scared of things I cant see. Like sharks coming out of no where, mountain lions jumping out of nowhere, zombies crawling from under my bed. Thus, I learned to see well in the dark. If you run into me late at night, the pupil of my right eye is dilated even in light.

I hate roller coasters. Sure I'll ride them, but they aren't shear enjoyment. As for a scare house, I would rather light it on fire and see what happens. Ive never been in one really though. Scary movies are scary, but never give me night mares.

My one true fear is disease. It's something that I cant control. Something that can kill me without me being able to do anything. The feeling of being helpless is almost unbearable to me. I would rather die in a battle than die in some sick bed in a hospital. Drowning.... idk. I've always been an excellent swimmer, but I'll never go on a submarine. I hate being stuck just waiting to die. It isn't fear as much as it is anxiety.

    Things that scare me...

The thing that I'm the most scared of is moths! They drive me crazy! More than once, when I have been followed by a moth or accidentally got really close to one, I almost started crying because they scare me so much! I know that they don't usually hurt people, blah, blah, blah, but they're still the scariest things on the planet!

I like to be scared, as long as it's not super scary. I like haunted houses, some scary movies, etc. It really depends on what it is though, and how scary it is. On Halloween I watched Sweeney Todd with my friend Sarah, and I think we both agree that that was basically the best scary movie ever made! Even though it really wasn't that scary. Mythical creatures like vampires, zombies, and whatever else, don't scare me because I know that they don't really exist.
