I once had a kitten named Lucky. Really original, right? But we named her that for a reason. When Lucky was born, her cord was wrapped around her neck, just like with humans sometimes. We thought she was a stillborn, but my mom managed to free her and get her breathing. That alone made her lucky, but when she was only a few weeks old, really little and fluffy and cute, she climbed up under our suburban and sat up there, probably napping. When my mom took the car to drop my sister off at a friend's, Lucky went too, but fell out of the car half way there. When my mom got back, we were already looking for Lucky and eventually someone realized she was probably in the car again. It started to rain really hard but we went out looking for her anyway. We must have gone up and done that street 12 times, but finally I heard a little mew in the pounding of the rain. It was extremely lucky.
So my point, (I don't mean to bore you with kitten stories), is that yes, I believe in luck. But I also think that you can make your own luck.
