those damn assemblies

about the most i'll do for them is stand up but thats just to get off my ass and stretch. usually i have headphones in and music blasting to drown out all the "SPIRIT"if i did like this school and i did have spirit, orange is the worst color!!! i don't own a single thing orange and am not going to waste my time and money to get something orange. i just hate them, they portray football and sports as the most important in our school just to get a name for our school. we spend so much money on sports when half the student body is practially retarded and our text books are from the 80's. i love to be physical and fit, but i can do that on my own time, i came to school to learn and that's what i would like to happen!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I see where you are coming from. but I am curious, are you saying you would prefer our school doesn't have assemblies and just has normal classes all day everyday? No "fun" ? (I can't say either that they are fun, that's opinionative) But really, a break is nice every once and awhile right?

  3. ya i guess, the only reason i like those things is either so i can skip them and go home or so that classes are shorter, and they are not fun at all. i think i would have a little more spirit if i was at a nicer school where there was something to show spirit about, not a ghetto heap a shit.

  4. I agree about the portraying of the football thing. It seems like they want to show it off and how it is "oh so important". If playing football makes you happy go for it, but then to be fair everyone's sports and activities need to be shown off too.

  6. Seeing as most people have the same opinion as you, I wonder why we still have them?

  7. Whoa, whoa, slow down. "Ghetto heap of shit?" Quite a colorful phrase. Gentlemen, ghetto heap of shit-ness is in the eye of the beholder. The school is beautiful compared to some, and hideous compared to others. And I've seen both extremes, trust me. We do not spend all of our money on sports, though we do spend a lot. As for the pep assemblies being a fun break from class, why not just have -- a break from class? Hmm? How about a free period for, I dunno, 30 minutes or so, once a week or once a month? Serve the same purpose but without the annoyance so many of you are voicing. The value of the pep assemblies is in the spirit, not in the relaxation.

CoCo: we will always have pep assemblies because this is a school driven largely by tradition: we have always had pep assemblies, and thus we always will. The majority opinion is irrelevant in this case -- though the majority opinion of students is usually irrelevant. I would also guess that the larger community's majority opinion would be quite different from those expressed here.
