I don't think you have to lie always. Little things shouldn't be lied about. If the lie will make the situation needed you to lie to make it all better then do so. Truthfully, I think that if you do something really bad you should lie to your parents (depending on how they'll take it). Most parents would be a lot better of with a lie or the partial truth.
All I'm saying is be smart when you lie, tell the truth when necessary, and don't be stupid.

ReplyDeleteI have to disagree on the lying to parents thing; I don't believe lying about most things, but particularly a person's activities or proclivities, is in any way a generous or helpful action. If I lied to my parents about what I was doing as a teenager (and believe me, I did), it wasn't to protect them; it was to protect me, because I knew they would punish me or lecture me or what have you. I might have told myself I was keeping them from worrying, but that would really only be true if I was doing something they should be worrying about -- because it was something I shouldn't have been doing.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, if you happened to have parents that worry over silly little things, then I can see lying to protect them from worrying more than they should. But I'm not sure that most young people have enough worldly wisdom and compassion to understand when someone is worrying unnecessarily, versus when they are worrying and you don't want them to for your own reasons.
I agree with us not being meant to know everything. The world would be in utter chaos. The human mind is too tempermental for all truths to be shown.
