Topic #6: Groups

I belong to the "outcast/loser" clique (no offense, Maggie :P). What stereotypes do I match? I don't know, because I don't really pay attention to current stereotypes. Stereotypes will affect me if I discover that I match a bad one. Ooo, I just thought of one! Computer geek... yeah, I totally match that stereotype except for the pocket protector and taped glasses. Or is that computer nerd? Whatever, same difference. Most of the time, if people put me in a category, it's simply from not knowing me well enough. Stereotypes do not inconvenience me until it affects how I make friends. I am perfectly happy with my social group at the moment, and I would not do anything to change my close group of friends.

On the topic of labeling others, I tend (or try) not to do this. You can never, ever, predetermine what someone's personality will be. When I do add others to a social group without hearing it from them firsthand, it's normally convenient (I hope), though I will not deny that I have put people into potentially harmful stereotypes.
