Sorry i'm a little late on this blog. If I had to grade this class I think I would give it a B+ or and A. It's not one of those classes I Dread going to and just can't get into which is nice. I personally like english, I just don't think I apply myself when it comes to books that don't interest me. It's really hard to read when I can't make a connection or find SOME kind of interest in it. Maybe I'm just not a reader, but that's the only downside so far. Since sometimes I don't apply myself, I would most like grade myself with an B or B- just because I know I could do better. At the beginning of the semester I set a goal to try to raise my grade to an A so hopefully this semester will be a fresh start and be a new experience.
Topic 2:
Books. As I just told you in the topic above, it takes a lot to get me interested. I don't think there is one or even 3 elements that I can pick out over all of them, I think that they all play a different role in books and that you need all of them to get a really strong story (or just to interest me I guess). Plot is important because it lays down the story for you, and the conflicts and troubles of the book. I like a book with a lot of conflict because it keeps me interested until the end. Characters, I like them to be a little odd or different. Usually authors do a pretty good job on this but I like to feel a connection to the character so I can get into the book more. Mood, one of my favorites, because it can be the difference from dark, happy, suspense, mysterious, etc. And it changes the way you read and think about things. All the elements are important and i think that they all go hand and hand, therefor I can't pinpoint anything. But hopefully people agree with my outlook.

Makes sense to me (the comment that all the elements interact and thus you can't really pick one out as the best or most important), though on some level that probably puts mood and theme on top of the pile for you, since those are the two that sort of arch over (or beetle!) the others, running through every other aspect. I'd bet you pick a lot of books based on the main idea of them, and how they feel -- scary, dark, etc.
